FAQs

The most frequently asked questions about the Veolo Trailer 2.0, answered briefly and honestly. Is your question not listed? Just write to us.

General

The veolo is compatible with most bicycles and e-bikes from 16" to 29". However, the towing bicycle should meet certain requirements.

  • Reliable brakes: A bicycle with powerful brakes is essential. Hydraulic brakes are particularly recommended when carrying heavier loads.
  • Stable frame: The frame material is less important than having a sufficiently sturdy construction. Trekking bikes, mountain bikes, touring bikes, and gravel bikes are generally well suited.
  • Not suitable for lightweight road bikes: Due to their construction and design, lightweight road bikes are generally not suitable for use with a trailer.
  • Stable attachment: The veolo is attached to the left side of the rear wheel axle. This places the coupling at a structurally load-bearing point on the bicycle, allowing the forces generated to be transferred directly into the frame.

In short: A stable bicycle with reliable brakes is the most important requirement. If you are unsure whether your bicycle is suitable, please feel free to contact us.

Yes – the veolo 2.0 is optimally designed for use with e-bikes.

The electric assistance is particularly noticeable with heavy loads, inclines, and longer rides. This means the veolo can be ridden comfortably and sportily even when fully loaded.

  • Ideal for e-bikes – the motor assistance makes towing the trailer significantly easier.
  • Especially practical with heavy loads – up to 60 kg can be transported comfortably, even over longer distances.
  • More comfort on inclines – the additional assistance really comes into its own, especially in hilly terrain.
  • Minimal impact on range – depending on the load, terrain, and riding style, the e-bike’s range may be reduced by around 10%.

Even with plenty of luggage, the veolo remains an agile and comfortable companion for your e-bike.

Follow safety rules and adjust your speed.

Details / Notes:

  • Maximum speed: 25 km/h with trailer.
  • Maximum trailer load: 60 kg
  • Braking distance increases depending on the load—especially when the trailer is fully loaded.
  • The bicycle trailer follows unobtrusively behind you → be mindful of it when cornering and starting off.

Yes – the veolo features progressive elastomer suspension with 45 mm of travel.

The specially developed elastomer suspension ensures smooth, controlled handling while protecting your load from unnecessary shocks.

The benefits of elastomer suspension:

  • Progressive spring rate – the elastomer responds sensitively with a light load and becomes progressively stiffer as the load increases.
  • 45 mm of travel – ample reserve for uneven paths and dynamic riding.
  • Two stiffness levelsSoft for approximately 0–40 kg of additional load and Medium for approximately 30–60 kg. This allows the suspension to be optimally adjusted to the load.
  • Low-maintenance and durable – the elastomer is weather- and wear-resistant and designed for long-term use.
  • Easy to replace – the elastomer can be replaced quickly and easily using a 4 mm hex key.

The result: less vibration, more comfort, and a smoother ride – for you and your load.

The shape was designed for driving dynamics, stability, and optimal use of space—not for a box-shaped footprint.

At first glance, a rectangular trailer may seem to offer more storage space, but structurally it is less suitable for sporty and agile riding. The characteristic shape of the veolo makes it possible to optimally coordinate the frame, suspension, and storage space.

The advantages of the veolo shape:

  • Lightweight, torsionally rigid frame – the frame weighs just 1.9 kg while providing high rigidity
  • Wide track – for high stability and safe handling, even during dynamic riding
  • Optimal integration of the independent wheel suspension – each wheel can operate independently without taking up unnecessary space
  • Efficient use of space – the shape is designed to accommodate the veolo Bag, Box, and Dog Add-ons
  • Practical to load – despite its sporty shape, the veolo can hold typical loads, such as two large and one small beverage crate, one Eurobox, or two Euroboxes stacked on top of each other

The shape of the veolo is not a compromise but the core of the concept—for more riding pleasure, stability, and functionality.

Yes, the trailer is designed for sporty driving.

Details / Notes:

  • The combination of lightweight construction, suspension, low center of gravity, and wide track ensures high agility.
  • Fast cornering and off-road sections are also easily manageable.

Maximum load: 60 kg.

Details / Notes:

  • Soft elastomer optimally cushions loads up to 40 kg.
  • Medium elastomer optimally cushions loads from 35 - 60 kg.

The wheels and drawbar can be removed quickly, making the veolo compact in no time.

Depending on the available space, you can store the trailer in different ways:

  • Compact dimensions: Without the drawbar, the veolo measures just 101 × 62 × 13 cm. With the drawbar, it measures 148 × 62 × 13 cm.
  • Remove the wheels: The 20" wheels can be removed without tools using the quick-release axles and stored directly on the frame.
  • Store vertically: The veolo can be stood upright on its dampers to save space.
  • On the wall: With the appropriate wall mount, the trailer can be attached directly to the wall and takes up hardly any floor space.
  • For transport: The removable drawbar significantly reduces the packed size – ideal when the veolo needs to be transported in a car or stored seasonally.

This means the veolo can easily find a place in your garage, basement, carport, or trunk.

Coupling & Tow Bar

Click & Go – attach the veolo, secure it, and ride off.

We place great importance on an intuitive and uncomplicated connection between bicycle and trailer. To achieve this, we developed our own particularly lightweight and discreet coupling weighing just 65 g. It is based on the tried-and-tested ball-head system, identical in design to Thule.

It’s that easy:

  1. Mount the coupling on the bicycle
The coupling is attached to the left side of the rear wheel axle. Depending on the bicycle, a suitable adapter or special thru axle may be required.
  2. Attach the trailer
Simply click the ball head on the drawbar into the coupling with one hand.
  3. Automatically secured
The coupling automatically locks the ball head in place—no additional steps required.
  4. Detach with one click
To uncouple the trailer, simply click once and the veolo is separated from the bicycle.
  5. Additional safety
A Kevlar-reinforced safety leash additionally connects the drawbar to the bicycle, providing a second layer of security.

No more fiddling—just Click & Go.

Before ordering, please check how the coupling can be mounted on your bicycle. Many bicycles require an adapter or special thru axle for this.

You can find detailed installation instructions [here – link to instructions]. If you have any questions about compatibility, we will be happy to advise you.

Click & Go – proven technology, reimagined.

The veolo hitch combines intuitive operation with a minimalist design and exceptionally low weight. It is based on the proven ball-head principle and has been modernized for the veolo.

  • Click & Go: Attach it with one click, secure it automatically, and release it just as quickly.
  • Precise fit: The ball head sits securely and precisely in the hitch without play. This means the forces that occur are transferred directly and without annoying jolting between the bicycle and trailer.
  • Small & discreet: Weighing just 65 g, the hitch blends unobtrusively and elegantly into the bicycle.
  • Lockable: The veolo can be secured against unauthorized removal.
  • Robust & durable: Proven ball-head design for reliable, long-lasting use.
  • Thule-compatible: The veolo hitch is compatible with Thule hitches and trailers.
  • Familiar installation: The hitch attaches to the bicycle using the same principle as Thule, Burley, and Croozer. Adapters suitable for their hitches can therefore also be used with the veolo hitch.

Essentially, we’ve given a proven hitch a modern upgrade: smaller, lighter, more precise, and easier to use – Click & Go.

There is a suitable tow bar for every application.

Details / Notes:

  • Standard tow bar: 26–29-inch bicycles.
  • Multifunction tow bar: 16–29-inch bicycles.
  • Long tow bar: for long items, all wheel sizes.

Yes – we install the Weber drawbar connection upon request.

If you already have several bicycles equipped with Weber couplings, the Weber option may be a sensible choice. Functionally, it offers a similar range of features to our veolo coupling, but has some structural differences:

  • Compatible with existing Weber couplings: Ideal if several bicycles already have Weber couplings installed.
  • Similar functionality: The Weber coupling generally offers a comparable range of functions.
  • Larger design: The coupling mechanism is significantly larger – especially the part of the coupling that remains attached to the bicycle.
  • Not compatible with the veolo stand: Our stand cannot be installed when using the Weber coupling.
  • Limited use by hand: When used with the multifunctional drawbar, it must be shortened for the Weber coupling. This makes it less comfortable to use as a handle.

Weber coupling upon request: We install the Weber drawbar connection for a flat fee of €60 including materials and installation.

If you already use Weber couplings, this option is an uncomplicated way to integrate the veolo into your existing fleet.

Yes – the drawbar can be changed or removed quickly and easily.

This allows you to adapt the veolo flexibly to different uses and make it especially compact for transport and storage.

  • Easy to change: Loosen two screws with a 6 mm Allen key, change the drawbar, and tighten the screws again.
  • Flexible: Different drawbar variants can be used depending on the bicycle or transport task.
  • Space-saving: For transport in the car or storage, the drawbar can be completely removed quickly.
  • Ready to use again quickly: Insert it, tighten the screws, and ride off.

This keeps the veolo flexible – both in use and during transport and storage.

A bolted drawbar provides a precise, stable, and permanently play-free connection.

Especially when riding with a trailer at a sporty pace, the drawbar is subjected to high, alternating forces. The bolted connection keeps the joint precise and prevents unwanted play.

  • Stable & precise: The secure bolted connection ensures direct power transfer and controlled handling.
  • Permanently play-free: Should any play nevertheless develop over the long service life, the bolts can simply be tightened.
  • Durable materials: Stainless steel bolts and matching bushings are designed for long-term use.
  • Greater riding comfort: Less play means less rattling and wobbling, resulting in smoother handling.

We deliberately use a bolted connection instead of a simple plug-in or clamping connection—for a durable and precise drawbar mount.

Technical details

20" wheels with sturdy aluminum hollow-section rims and wide, fast-rolling tires.

The veolo is equipped with 20" wheels (ETRTO 406) and Kenda Small Block Eight 20 × 2.1" tires—a combination of low weight, comfort, and smooth rolling performance.

  • Sturdy hollow-section rims: approximately 32 mm wide while remaining lightweight.
  • Wide 2.1" tires: allow for low tire pressure for greater comfort and good traction.
  • Good damping: The tires complement the elastomer suspension and reduce jolts.
  • Versatile: Ideal for roads, bike paths, forest roads, and light terrain.

Comfortable on uneven paths, nimble on asphalt—the 20" wheels are designed for versatile use.

The rotating tow bar transforms the veolo into a practical handcart in just a few seconds.

  1. Release the quick releases – open the two quick releases in the middle.
  2. Raise the tow bar – swing the front section of the tow bar upward.
  3. Slide on the handle – slide the handle over the ball pin until it clicks securely into place.
  4. Done – the veolo can now be used as a handcart with its ergonomic handle.
  5. For bicycle use: always close both quick releases firmly and completely.

Important: Check that both quick releases are securely fastened before every ride. They must be fully closed and securely locked.

Continuously adjustable: The rotating tow bar can be locked at any height and is therefore ideally adjustable for bicycles from 16 to 29 inches. This keeps the veolo level both when attached to a bicycle and when used as a handcart.

For space-saving storage, the front section of the tow bar can also be removed completely.

The elastomer can be replaced quickly and without special tools—only a 4 mm hex key is required.

  1. Unload the swingarm: Gently press the wheel swingarm against the elastomer.
  2. Loosen the screw: Loosen and remove the screw with a 4 mm hex key.
  3. Remove the elastomer: Move the swingarm downward and remove the elastomer.
  4. Insert the new elastomer.
  5. Position the swingarm: Press the swingarm back into place until the holes are aligned.
  6. Secure the screw: Insert the screw and tighten firmly.

Tip: Depending on the load, two firmness levels are available: Soft for approximately 0–40 kg and Medium for approximately 30–60 kg of additional load.

Handling & Ride Quality

Driving with the trailer is easy, but as with all new things: practice makes perfect.

Details / Notes:

  • Start calmly: Take your time at first, drive relaxed around obstacles, and get to know the dimensions of the trailer.
  • Internalize the dimensions: After a short practice, you will be able to intuitively estimate the size of the trailer.
  • Test loading & braking: Load the trailer and try out the braking behavior at different speeds to get a feel for how it drives.
  • Check maneuverability: Test how tightly you can turn with the trailer—almost on the spot.
  • Gain off-road experience: Once you feel more confident, you can also drive over rough terrain or master tight corners.
  • Pay attention to tire pressure: Adjust the tire pressure according to the load and terrain—not too high.
  • Fun & adventure: You will quickly feel how much joy it brings to reach even remote spots with the trailer and your equipment.

Conclusion: With a bit of practice, driving becomes intuitive quickly and opens up new possibilities for leisure, sports, and transport.

The trailer is deliberately shifted slightly to the left to increase safety and driving comfort—a practice proven effective by all reputable manufacturers.

Details / Notes:

  • Over many years, this slight offset has become the standard in road traffic.
  • Drivers usually keep to the right edge of the road when overtaking or avoiding obstacles.
  • Because of the offset, the trailer aligns approximately flush with the handlebar on the right side, preventing collisions.
  • On the left side, the slightly protruding drawbar offers additional protection.
  • This arrangement provides greater safety, visibility, and smooth handling—as is common among all leading bicycle trailer manufacturers.

The correct tire pressure is essential for riding comfort, safety, and optimal suspension response.

Excessive tire pressure makes the veolo unnecessarily stiff and reduces comfort. Especially with a light load, you can ride with lower pressure.

  • Less load = less air pressure: Tire pressure should be adjusted to the load.
  • The tire and elastomer work together: The tire already absorbs small bumps, while larger impacts are handled by the elastomer suspension.
  • Consider the surface: Slightly higher pressure may be beneficial on asphalt, while slightly lower pressure is preferable on uneven paths.
  • Adjust individually: The optimal pressure depends on load, surface, riding style, and tire model .

As a general rule: Use as little pressure as possible, but as much as necessary—the tire should not bottom out or feel spongy, even when fully loaded.

Maintenance & Care

Durable and easy to maintain – the veolo requires very little maintenance.

  • Easy to clean: Water and a soft cloth or brush are usually all you need. Special care products are not necessary.
  • Aluminum frame: Light surface scratches can be carefully removed with fine steel wool.
  • Wheel axles: Lightly grease the thru-axles regularly to keep them moving smoothly.
  • Textile components: Bags and textile elements can be cleaned with water or a mild soapy solution. Allow them to dry completely afterward.
  • Multifunctional drawbar: Keep the swivel mechanism clean and remove dirt and sand as needed.
  • Check regularly: Check screw connections, quick releases, thru-axles, and the hitch regularly to ensure they are secure and functioning properly.

Minimal maintenance, maximum use – a few simple steps will keep your veolo in great shape for years to come.

The veolo is designed for minimal maintenance and a long service life.

Its robust aluminum construction and small number of wear parts mean that only limited regular maintenance is required.

  • Check regularly: Are the wheel axles sufficiently greased? Are the tire tread and air pressure correct? Are all screw connections tight?
  • Plain bearings: If noticeable play develops in the wheel suspension, the plain bearings should be replaced. Depending on the area of use, their typical service life is approximately 3,000–15,000 km.
  • Elastomer: The elastomer is durable and maintenance-free. If it becomes worn or a different hardness is desired, it can be replaced quickly and easily.

In general: Carry out a brief regular check—no extensive maintenance is required for the veolo.

Safety & Requirements

A quick check before setting off provides greater safety and a better riding experience.

  • Tyres: Check the tyre pressure and tread.
  • Brakes: Check the bicycle’s function and braking performance.
  • Coupling: Is the coupling correctly mounted, and is the ball head fully engaged and secured?
  • Tow bar: Is the tow bar firmly attached? Check that the screws—and, on the multifunction tow bar, the quick-release levers—are securely tightened.
  • Load: Is the weight evenly distributed, and is the load within the permitted limits?
  • Wheels & axles: Are the thru-axles fully engaged and secured?
  • Safety: Is the additional safety leash correctly attached?

It only takes a few seconds—and should become part of your routine before every ride.

Your load is secure and stable when fastened with tension straps.

Details / Notes:

  • Use 20–25 mm wide tension straps with a clamp fastener (available in the shop).
  • Attachment options: directly to the frame or in the slots at the lower edge of the shell.
  • Do not attach to the upper edge of the shell to avoid bending.
  • Check the straps after a short drive and then regularly thereafter.
  • Proper load securing prevents slipping, damage, or accidents.

With the right tie-down straps, your load stays safe and secure even during dynamic riding.

  • Directly to the frame: Use 20–25 mm wide tie-down straps to secure the load directly to the frame.
  • Quick & easy: Our special straps simply clip into the connectors between the frame and the body.
  • Check regularly: After the first few miles, check that the straps are securely fastened, and continue checking them regularly.
  • Distribute the weight: Place heavy items as low and evenly as possible to keep the center of gravity low and maintain stable handling.

Proper load securing prevents shifting, protects your equipment, and ensures controlled handling.

With just a few simple steps, you can further protect the veolo against theft.

  • Connect it to the bicycle: Our lockable hitch can connect the veolo to the bicycle, preventing quick access.
  • Lock it to a fixed object: A long, flexible bicycle lock, such as one from Texlock, is suitable for additionally securing the veolo to a fixed object such as a bicycle rack or lamppost.
  • Lock the veolo Box: The veolo Box can also be secured with two Z-Loks. This also protects the cargo from quick access.

For longer periods of parking, we recommend additionally securing the veolo with a sturdy lock to a fixed object.

Yes—the veolo is equipped with reflectors at the front and rear. A rear light must also be used when riding in the dark.

  • Reflectors: The veolo has reflectors on the front and rear.
  • Rear light: A rear light is required when riding in the dark. The SIGMA® INFINITY is available as an accessory and can be attached vertically to the pack bar or directly to the frame.
  • spoke reflectors: For additional visibility, reflectors can be attached to the spokes of the wheels.

This ensures that you remain clearly visible and safe even in poor lighting conditions.

Safety you can feel: stable on the road, controlled off-road, and protected inside.

The risk of tipping over is very low with the veolo Dog thanks to its low center of gravity and wide track.

Even when cornering dynamically, the trailer remains stable and easy to control. However, as with any trailer, extreme riding maneuvers, high speeds, or riding over larger obstacles can cause it to tip over.

Therefore: ride appropriately and remain particularly alert when navigating tight turns and off-road terrain.

For medium-sized and large dogs, a trailer is generally the safer and more comfortable solution.

  • Greater safety: The enclosed interior prevents the dog from jumping or falling out of the basket while riding.
  • More freedom of movement: The dog has significantly more space and can position itself comfortably in the trailer.
  • Greater comfort: The veolo’s suspension reduces jolts and makes the trailer especially more comfortable on longer journeys.

For small dogs, a suitable bicycle basket may be a sensible option—but for larger dogs, a trailer offers significantly more protection and comfort.

  • With e-bike: max. 25 km/h.
  • Adjust speed according to the dog, load, and terrain.
  • Especially the braking behavior depends heavily on the weight.

Dog & Handling

Start slowly and create positive experiences—this is how the veolo Dog becomes a familiar and safe place.

  • Get acquainted first: Let your dog explore the trailer calmly and initially get in and out independently.

  • Comfortable interior: Enough space to sit, lie down, and travel comfortably.

In addition to weight, the dog's size and build are especially important. The dog should be able to sit and lie down comfortably.

Yes, as long as both dogs fit comfortably and the total weight does not exceed 35 kg.

  • Both dogs should have enough room to move around.
  • The movement of two dogs may slightly affect handling.

Just give it a try and start out a little more slowly—then nothing will stand in the way of enjoying rides together.

The veolo Dog remains agile and stable to ride even with a dog on board—however, its handling changes slightly depending on the dog’s weight and movement.

  • Adjust your riding style: The dog’s weight and position can affect the handling.
  • Start calmly: Ride a little more slowly at first and get used to how the trailer behaves.
  • Cornering & braking: After a short adjustment period, you can increase your speed and lean into corners as usual.
  • Tip: If you wish, you can briefly practice with a substitute weight before your first ride with your dog.

After just a few kilometers, you will generally have quickly become accustomed to the handling.

Use as a cargo trailer

The veolo Dog can be quickly and easily converted into a cargo trailer.

  1. Remove the dog canopy and take off the bars using the four thumb screws.
  2. Remove the dog bed.
  3. Loading: Place the load directly in the tub or use the veolo bag or veolo box.

The veolo Dog can be easily cleaned with water and mild soapy water.

  • Trailer & textile cover: Clean with water and mild soapy water.
  • Textile cover: Not suitable for machine washing.
  • Dog cushion: Removable and washable separately.

Allow all textile components to dry completely after cleaning.

Yes, the veolo Dog is designed for changeable weather.

  • Light rain: The fabric cover and mesh reliably protect the interior from light rain and splashing water.
  • Good ventilation: The mesh also ensures good air circulation and prevents heat buildup.
  • Heavy rain: For prolonged or heavy rain, we recommend the additional rain cover, which will be available from January 2027.
  • Quick drying: The interior and fabrics dry quickly after the ride.

Light rain? No problem. In heavy rain, the rain cover provides additional protection.
