What is bikepacking?

Bikepacking is similar to backpacking... but of course it takes place on the bike. When bikepacking, you go on a multi-day trip by bike. The term often describes tours that take place outside, far from civilization. However, there are no set rules as to what exactly “real” bikepacking is. If you're traveling with your bike and have the right equipment for spending the night in nature, bikepacking can be quite simple.

Which bike is best for my adventure?

Not all bikes are suitable for an off-road adventure. When bikepacking you are often on stony paths, which is why a mountain bike is recommended. The bike must move well both uphill and downhill.

If you plan to ride a mix of roads, dirt roads and gravel paths, you can also use a gravel bike. This is perfect for coarser gravel paths.

Where can I find suitable routes?

Of course, the best thing is to go on completely individual adventures and explore your own routes. However, this requires intensive planning. For beginners, it is therefore advisable to determine the route using route planners. This way you can test your equipment and, if necessary, optimize it for your next tour. Bikepackers often use Bikepacking.com. There you will find international mountain bike and gravel routes.
